The King Cobra looked very much like a Python with a solid rather than ventilated rib atop the barrel, a feature this new revolver shares. Colt may be on to something with this 3-inch Magnum. After all, 3-inch barreled Pythons are rare and very collectible and many folks feel the 3–inch guns give the best balance of handling and concealability.

I just picked up a Colt King Cobra 22 to keep my S&W 617 and Ruger GP-100 .22 company. Having nice speedloaders for the Smith and Ruger are a big part of what make those guns enjoyable to shoot and so I was mildly concerned about what seemed like an absense of available speedloaders for the Colt. King cobra now that they make the python in a 3 inch is fairly similar, however I would say the KC is more of a carry gun, python is more of a range gun. It has better sights then the KC, and more then likely a solid frame. Both great guns, but for me if I chose a python I’d get the 4.25 inch barrel instead of the 3 inchPythons. I have the new King Cobra with 3 inch barrel and Colt says it weighs 28 ounces. Colt doesn't list the weight of the 4 inch barreled King Cobra, but I wouldn't think it would weigh a lot more than the 3-inch barreled model. I think the king cobra is made to occasionally shoot 357 mag. I would look at a python or a comparable ruger or s&w. I own colts but my 4" ruger security 6 is probably my best revolver. It's made as well as my dan Wesson revolver but better priced. It's a bit bigger than a king cobra. It's more like python and takes a steady diet of 357 magnum.Most of them asking, and getting more money for their offerings than Colt can in this day and age. If longevity is your desire, then that's a big perk. I'd also add that in my hands the new Python is extremely, extremely comfortable to shoot with even stupid-hot .357 mag.

I can't remember where I bought the Rosewood grip panels for sure but probably from NC Grips where I buy most of my Custom Grips from, Good people.
