I pattern tested my Ithaca 51 12ga tonight. I shot a reload of 7/8 ounce of #6 at 1200 fps. The 26" IC barrel put 134 of 218 pellets (hand counted) in a 30 inch circle at 40 yards for 61%. The 28" Mod barrel put 173 out of 218 pellets in a 30" circle at 40 yards for 79%. Very nice even patterns.The model 51 barrels have two gas ports that bleed gas to a small piston under the barrel which in turns cycles the bolt. I noticed that on the 30" magnum barrel, for the same gun, (will handle 3" shells) only has one of the two ports open. The guns cycles perfectly with field loads.
