Dec 10, 2012 · I have a 12 Impala the VVT V6 and I have a knocking/popping sound from the motor when you start to drive it. The sound is interrupted when the vehicle shifts gears. I do not hear the sound when it idles or when I rev the engine without the car moving (in park or neutral). I also do not hear the sound when it is in reverse (going backwards). My 2015 Impala LT has 55,000 miles on it. I purchased it Certified Used with 49,000 less than a year ago. It has been making an unusual clunking noise in the last several months which seems to be coming from the rear suspension or chassis area.
