The biggest advantage to using CFE in 223/5.56 loads is essentially it's made to fill the case entirely leaving just enough room to set the bullet without going over pressure. I seat mine to 2.250 OAL for optimum magazine feeding over 26.5 grains of CFE you won't get any more in the case without compressing it.
I use CFE 223 in 223 for 69 gr Sierra MK's in precision loads. Never tried it for 55 gr bullets. For 55 gr FMJBT's. Tac (another ball powder) is what I use. Go to Hodgdon's site for CFE 223 loads. If you have good, clean, accurate loads with 55gr bullets I would say, for most shooting uses, you would be pretty close when going to the 62gr bullets using the same powder. Just tweek the charge. Myself I use Tac for 55 and 62 gr FMJBT's and CFE 223 for precision loads. You won't find any advantage using Tac over CFE 223 with plinking loads other than gaining experience with Tac. According to my new Hornady 9th Edition Reloading Manual, it is showing a max charge of 27.5 Gr. of CFE 223 for the 55 Gr. in 5.56 NATO, and 25.4 Gr. (2-1/10th grain less), for the same combination in .223. I have 2 bolt guns in .223, (A CZ-527 LUX, and a Marlin X-7), as well as 3 Ruger Mini 14's, and countless AR's.
