Single board programs are 12+12 but some will tack on a 3rd year to "help you with your research" (AKA, get cheap labor out of you). Some programs are 2 full clinical years + 12 mos of research. To pass heme: Read ASH-SAP twice (10 pages/day x 2 months = 1 go around) starting January of third year. Do ASH-SAP questions (good representation) GW-hematology audios (go through it twice), start the January of third year. Hem is more diverse. Benign = you need a good understanding of physiology to enjoy or else you will want to poke your eyes out. Acute leuks/BMT/induction = prolonged inpatient stays with little organ reserve and thus require great attention to details and closer follow-up. Myeloma = super chill and more like onc.
