Our ranged rogue has fun and its our skill monkey and likes range even though in melee he does more damage. But yeah, the optimazed ranged classes are fighter and ranger. They have the best ranged feats.

Sneak Attack from a Rogue (or Rogue MCD in this instance) always works if your attack meets the requirements, generally the right type of weapon & the opponent be flat-footed (and hopefully not having resistance/immunity to precision damage). It is incredibly niche. For free archetypes, it really depends on what you want with the character. For high damage and synergy, a swashbuckler would be quite good with the Tumble Behind feat (from either class) and finishing precision. Acrobat is also good to focus more on dexterity.
