Versatility is expensive in this system. I believe the balancing factor for this is that the Kineticist isn't actually flexible compared to a caster. A caster has dozens of spells available to them at every level and they can prepare/know several at every spell level. The impulse junctions might still be worth it because Earth/Wood Impulse Junctions are great as tanks. With theorycrafting there are two easy ways to build. Focus on using basic impulses and a powerful stance keeping it up most the time and use overflows every once and awhile.
