Overfilled gas tank of Vulcan 800a Help! So it's official I am an idiot. I ignored the label that says do not to overfill b/c heat may cause fuel to expand and flow into the Evaporative Emmission Control System resulting in hard starting and rough running. Well of course that is exactly what I did and that label was not lying.

vn800 classic carb problem. for some reason my bike keeps dumping fuel out the side of my carb after it's been shut off witch inturn runs down the coolant pipe going to the crankcase and seeping fuel into the case. I have taken the carb apart at least 4 times and checked everything over. Float is sitting right where it should be.The bike is a 2001 VN800 Classic and the previous owner said the bike was idling and then while he was strapping his helmet on the bike died. He took it to the place where he bought it and they pulled the plugs, said they put a camera inside and they claim the motor sucked a valve. The bike has 22,000 mi. and looks very well taken care of.Mine is an 2000 Vulcan 800 Classic. My last/previous bike was an older KZ750B, the old 2-banger, and it vibrated so badly. This 800 rides so smooth, sits just low enough, and has plenty of power for an old fart (62 1/2). If the engine fires good cold, compression is probably OK. Check your plugs. A cracked or burnt out plug can cause high speed misfires and stalling as well. To get fuel into the oil gas has to get past the petcock. The petcock can leak 2 ways: not properly shutting off or having a diaphram issue and leaking fuel into the manifold thru the vacuum hose. "Best" fix is an earlier non-vacuum off-on-reserve petcock. Or rebuild or replace yours.
