Nov 30, 2020 · NOW if you want to go one step farther... disconnect the rod... push it up in the block and pull the crank... use a good hammer and a good screwdriver or brass rod and knock the steel pressed on gear off the crank (the big one that drives the governor).. toss it in the scrap bin and put it all back together. This setup helps to keep it simple and reliable. The governor setting can adjusted, but by changing the hole the spring is connected to. IMO, the two are completely different things. A governor works to limit RPMs. A throttle stop works to limit power. So if you back out the throttle stop and gain RPMs, it is because the engine is making more power and you are still under the governor setting.
