I carry both, the G 38 will have a grip the same width as a G 19. The 8 round mag for the G 38 holds 9 rounds and is a full length grip. The slide is thicker, however than that of the G 30S. OI carry my G 38 more than the G 30 or 30S. I use the X grip devices to carry G 38 mags in my G 39.

Thinking about a Glock 30S or a Shield .45 2.0. I have mags and holsters for both. Have carried a 30 before, and a Shield 9 Plus, so pretty familiar. Both about the same size, clearly the Glock is a little thicker and the Shield under and inch in width. The Glock has the advantage of taking G21 mags for backup. Grip is better on the Shield.

I was surprised when I put the XD next to the 36 and the 36 was just a touch thinner. Back to the 30 and XD, I personally like the XD a lot. For 9mm, Glock wins over XD, and in 45 XD wins over Glock.

Although if I could swap my 29SF for the 30SF, I could get the 10mm LW barrel for only $130 to accomplish my objectives. On my Gen4, I've had two mag catches and springs replaced due to excessive wear of the catch and the notches in the mags.
