Re: 16" - 18" barrels on 336 I always liked the 20" barrels on the 336 vs the 24" my brother has on his 336A. But after buying the 1894C with the 18.5" barrel, I really like the shorter barreled gun. I'm still contemplating cutting down the Glenfield 30A I recently acquired to 18". I just haven't found a smith to do it.

A 1X-4X will be effective at greater distances than the .35 Remington is practical for a shot at game. At the low end, you can find the game animal at 15yds to 20yds in thick cover.
