Not sure there is any benefit in NOT doing that. Considering the feudal system wasn't exactly like Bannerlord's faction system. In Bannerlord becoming a vassal means basically becoming permanent part of a nation. In history vassals could enjoy various degrees of freedom. SO, I could only really find one reliable source thus far.When you join a faction your banner swaps to their color by default. It is possible to remain in a faction and keep your custom banner color. In vanilla, the player cannot recruit independent (formerly rebel) clans that have not previously joined an AI kingdom. If you have a mod that destroys fiefless kingdoms but keeps their clans around, the inability to recruit independent clans could be the problem.
