In searching another rimfire forum I think the answer is for rifles made after 2000 the first two digits of the serial number are subtracted from 2100 to fine the date, making my rifle a 2003 manufacture (last year made). But, the Model 60 Glenfield was made up to 1982, and the Glenfield name used on other guns to 1983.TF, if the serial # starts with "MR" & has REP stamped on the right side of the barrel near the receiver, THAT IS A REMLIN! If it has "JM" stamped on the left side of the barrel near the receiver, most likely a "true" Marlin. Hope this helps.
